EASTERN SCREECH OWL

Red Phase Screech Owl-1-2

EASTERN SCREECH OWL

The rufous morph  variant (seen above) of the Eastern Screech Owl is  a rarity here in Eastern Ontario.  Screech owls are masters of camouflage. Note the colour of the background that this cute little guy has decided to rest against.

Wing Detail-1-2

WING DETAIL

Note serrations on the lower edge of main wing feathers which can be seen on many owls. These act as silencers for the wing beats which gives these raptors a deadly advantage against their intended prey.
