Home sweet home for our stay in the commune des Houches in the Chamonix Valley is no more than a 10 minute drive to Chamonix itself. The pistes of Les Houches are regularly used for international events most notably the ‘Kandahar’ run is used annually for the Men’s Downhill World Cup Ski Championships.<\/p>\n

I have a direct view from my bedroom window across the valley to both the summit and massif of Mont Blanc.<\/p>\n

Prominent local feature is the statue of Christ Roi on the hillside behind us. His raised hand welcomes all the to the valley below. So with Christ behind and Mont Blanc in front, I get a good feeling about this trip.<\/p>\n

A resonating carillon peels forth from the statue every evening at 7 o’clock. Time to break open the fine burgundy and get the fire going!!<\/p>\n
