His nomination to the US Supreme Court by President Reagan was shot down by a cabal of miscreant political wretches. Despite the turndown, Bork&#8217;s reputation continued to grow with each learned tome published while that of his detractors continues to deteriorate to this very day. We shared a further few minutes in the departure lounge of the San Diego airport where his legendary reputation for devastatingly laconic humour did not disappoint.<\/p>\n<p>His omission reduced the stature of the US\u00a0 Supreme Court as does his death America&#8217;s.
