LOL!! So much for long term prognostication. The Mayan&#8217;s thought themselves capable of predicting the end of the world hundreds of years in advance of the event and yet couldn&#8217;t see the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors off their coastline. Guess which event had a greater impact on their society!!\u00a0 There are lessons to be learned in such misplaced hubris!!!<\/p>\n<p>Above is a sketch I made of a Mayan observatory back in the 70&#8217;s during a visit to the Yucatan peninsula.
