This pitched battle was the largest in the history of Eastern Ontario. Outnumbered four to one, the defenders forced the withdrawal of the 8,000 man American invasion fleet heading toward Montreal to effectively tear Canada asunder during the war of 1812.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bilyreid.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/CANADIAN-FENCIBLES-11.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4012\" alt=\"CANADIAN FENCIBLES-1\" src=\"http:\/\/bilyreid.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/CANADIAN-FENCIBLES-11.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>104th REGIMENT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The 104th Regimental unit (this is the regiment which marched from New Brunswick to Fort Henry in the dead of winter to bolster the defence of Upper Canada) strikes a cavalry square pose during the official re-enactment which was held last summer to accommodate tourism and experience better weather.<\/p>\n<p>The cavalry square formation would also be used at the Battle of Waterloo to devastating effect against French cavalry two years later.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday was the bicentennial of the famous British\/Canadian victory at Crysler&#8217;s Farm, the other November 11th!
