Great news from the federal government! Camp X, the famous WWII spy school that was the college of knowledge for notables such as Ian Fleming<\/strong>, creator of the greatest franchise in movie history and Wild Bill Donovan<\/strong>, creator of the Office of Strategic Services ( OSS<\/strong>……later the CIA<\/strong>) has been officially recognized by Parks Canada.<\/p>\n

I visited Camp X just last week during a visit to nearby Thickson’s Woods<\/strong>, one of the best birding locations in all of southern Ontario. \u00a0Ian Fleming was an avid bird watcher and would have known Thickson’s well (especially its historic link as a source of white pine masts and spars for the Royal Navy<\/strong>!).<\/p>\n

Also last week, I was speechifying<\/a> in Beach’s Burying Ground<\/strong>, just a mile or two from the Buffalo Canoe Club<\/strong> at Point Abino<\/strong>, Ontario were Wild Bill, a native of Buffalo, New York, \u00a0spent his youthful summers. \u00a0This major conflict of interest forced me to miss the Niagara Lands Trust<\/strong> birding event at Point Abino at exactly the same time. They used my image of the Light House \u00a0in their promotional advertisement, Spring Ephemerals<\/strong>. You can check out the image here<\/strong><\/a>. Can’t help thinking that it would have brought back pleasant memories to Old Wild Bill.<\/p>\n

Absolutely amazing how all this comes \u00a0together in just one week!<\/p>\n

Don’t you wish we had Ian and old Wild Bill around again? Then again, as certain politicians would have us believe, \u00a0“WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE?”<\/strong><\/p>\n
