Departing Greybull, Wyoming before sun-up and dodging mule deer all the way, I got seriously behind schedule crossing the spectacular pass through the Big Horn Mountains on my way back to Billings, Montana for an early afternoon flight home. I had planned to spend a couple of hours along the way at the Custer memorial on the Little Big Horn. In the event, I had only a little over a half hour!! Hope these hurried images do sufficient\u00a0 justice to this memorable page in American history which continues to haunt the imagination to this very day.<\/p>\n

Last Stand Hill.\u00a0 The white stone with the black facing marks the spot where Custer fell amongst the remnants of his once proud 7th Cavalry. (His body was re-interred at West Point.)<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Interesting modern side note! One dying soldier rolled over to protect the 7th Cavalry guidon from reaching enemy hands. It was later retrieved from the battlefield and eventually went to auction a couple of months ago. It went under the hammer for $12 million!!<\/p>\n
