The exhibit celebrates the 100th anniversary of the construction of the Point Abino lighthouse on the north shore of \u00a0the eastern end of Lake Erie. What ceaselessly amazes me about this Great Lakes icon is that it was built during a horrendous world war in the midst of labour and financial shortages. Adding to the challenge was the fact that access along a private residential road was denied to the federal government and the building had to be erected by lighters out on the lake. \u00a0Despite these difficulties, one of the cultural landmarks of south Niagara was created to the highest standards of the Greek Revival style.
