Lewis was the Cleveland E. Dodge\u00a0<a title=\"Emeritus\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Emeritus\">Professor Emeritus<\/a>\u00a0of Near Eastern Studies at\u00a0<a title=\"Princeton University\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Princeton_University\">Princeton University<\/a>. Lewis&#8217; expertise was in the\u00a0<a title=\"History of Islam\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/History_of_Islam\">history of Islam<\/a>\u00a0and the interaction between Islam and the West. Here&#8217;s a picture I took of him several years ago during a cruise we shared\u00a0 off the west coast of Mexico. It is different today.
