BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER

Only my second sighting in 7 years of the uncommon to rare Black-backed Woodpecker. BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER Black-backed woodpecker extracting a juicy morsel. Note the trademark three toes. Check out my video here.

MORE GREAT GRAYS

A Great Gray gets up close and personal. A Great Gray hunkers down in -25 degrees Celsius. A Great Gray was found dead in the middle of Ottawa. Most probably starved to death.

GREAT GRAY OWL

GREAT GRAY OWL Eastern Ontario is going through an irruption of Great Gray Owls to rival that of 2006. Normally a creature of the boreal forest, there are currently  reports of over a dozen birds in the Ottawa area.
