OTTAWA RAPTORS

No, not a basketball team!!  Took time out to visit the photography show Exposure and availed myself of the opportunity to shoot three captive raptors. (Raptor: bird of prey that kills with its powerful claws)

BARN OWL

PEREGRINE FALCON

Back from the edge of extinction!!

EURASIAN EAGLE OWL

Very similar to our Great Horned Owl. Double click along the lower wing edge to see the feather serrations which act as “silencers”, making this a deadly bird of prey.

BARRED OWL

As if the day wasn’t good enough, later I bumped into good friend Langis who told me of his discovery of a Barred Owl. I have shot Barred Owls many times in the past but never in such gorgeous light or full exposure. Many thanks Langis!!!

Check out my video of the encounter here: http://youtu.be/AQh4EGbiwqU

FEMALE BLACK SCOTER

Things just got better with the addition of a bird to my life list. Here is a first season female Black Scoter floating quietly on the Rideau River in central Ottawa. Normally they are beyond photographic range in the middle of the Ottawa River.
