Ile Bizard, Quebec

Took off early this morningĀ  with three photog buddies to head for Montreal, Quebec to look for Least Bittern which have been reported quite regularly at a nature park near Ile Bizard. The weather was overcast and the wind was up so we weren’t too optimistic for a good day but fortunately we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the opportunities presented.

LEAST BITTERN

We managed to spot several Least Bittern from the boardwalk around and through the park. One in particular, a female, proved to be quite cooperative. A wonderful photo opportunity as this was a life bird for me!!

Beyond the excitement of the Least Bittern, Pied Billed Grebes and their young were much in evidence. As were, Moorhens, Little Green Herons, Marsh Wrens and Swamp Sparrows.

BLACK TERNS

A pair of nesting Black Terns could be seen quite close to the boardwalk. Here a male brings food to his brooding partner!

A great day all around. Many thanks to Mike, Wade and especially Paul for the company and transportation.
