BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO – YES!!

Another opportunity presented itself for a hike in the Gatineaus with my friend Bob and we were up and at it early in the morning. The weather was absolutely perfect for the occasion. Nary a breath of wind and the temperature in the low 20s. Our primary goal was to try and get a shot of either the Black-billed or Yellow-billed cuckoo, both of which are supposedly found in the park.

BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO.

About a mile into our 4 hour hike, Bob heard and then spotted a Black-billed cuckoo. Another life bird for me! 3 in less than a week!! Good spot Bob!!

MALE MOURNING WARBLER

We then decided to pursue the Mourning warblers that we spotted last week. Although we were able to locate them, they proved exceedingly difficult to photograph. On our way back to the car for lunch, Bob heard the Mourning warbler call in a different location and we were rewarded with some remarkable views of a spectacular male.

We made a game effort to locate the two Northern Waterthrush that we spotted last week but drew a blank!

RED FOX

Final treat of the day was this playful red fox who posed for me on the footpath. Thanks little buddy!!!
