RONDEAU PROVINCIAL PARK

After a brief stop at Thickson’s Woods in Whitby, Ontario where the birding was extremely disappointing, we press on through Toronto traffic and head for Rondeau Provincial Park on Lake Erie near Ridgetown, Ontario. Here the warbler action was very slow but did find two  southern Ontario oddities .

FOWLER’S TOAD

The above image was taken of a specimen at Port Colborne at the other end of Lake Erie a few years back. Rondeau park is known for its reptiles and motorists are encouraged to “Brake for Snakes”. Apparently this does not appear to have been enough for what looks like a young Milk Snake below.

BOX 23, TULIP TREE TRAIL.

Major disappointment was the absence of the Prothonotary Warbler which had been seen off and on over the past few days at the nesting box on the Tulip Tree Trail. This would be a life bird for me and despite having made several valiant attempts over the past few year, I have yet to see it. Maybe Point Pelee will bring better luck!
