PAKENHAM

Sunday morning ramble in Eastern Ontario out towards the village of Pakenham finds me in search of the elusive Upland Sandpiper. Although I have spotted many feeding on the ground in tall grass, just can’t seem to find one willing to cooperate and pose for me atop a rustic fence post.

PAKENHAM STONE BRIDGE

Pakenham is home to the longest stone arch bridge in North America. Today is one of the hottest days of the year….. a far cry from the day I shot the bridge in late winter a couple of years back. The bridge spans the Mississippi River……just not the one that Huck Finn would have been familiar with!!

Flyfisherman works his line in the falls below the bridge.

UPLAND SANDPIPER

I finally spot a Sandpiper high atop a hydro pole. This flight shot is all I could get out of the encounter.

TURKEY VULTURE

Ugly Turkey Vultures cluster in roost trees along the river.

SANDHILL CRANES

Two Sandhill Cranes strutting about in a freshly cropped field.

SANDHILL CRANE IN FLIGHT

HOMESTEAD OF DR. JAMES NAISMITH

Serendipity strikes again as I stumble upon the boyhood home of  basketball inventor, Dr. James Naismith near Clayton, Ontario.
