TED “TEEDER” KENNEDY

Tim Kennedy

COUSINS TED AND TIM KENNEDY

Interesting photo from today’s Toronto Star!! I missed by only a few days accompanying cousin Tim Kennedy to the recent Maple Leafs FanFest at the ACC in Toronto where he managed to get his photo taken alongside his uncle’s statue which is the first one to go into the Legends Row. Looking good Tim!!

At age 17, Ted Kennedy was the youngest person to have played for the Leafs. He would be the first player in NHL history to win 5 Stanley Cups. A perennial fan favourite, it would be his nickname that would become the rallying cry from the crowds at the old Maple Leaf Gardens……..“COME ON TEEDER!!”

Some rare historical video footage of Ted’s last shift as a Leaf  has recently come to light.

One of the most memorable  moments of my youth was being taken by Ted into the dressing room of the Leafs between periods of a game. There I was introduced to the likes of Johnny Bower, Bobby Baun, “Chief-shoot-the puck” George Armstrong, and the great man-mountain himself, bending way over to shake little Billy’s hand…….Tim Horton!!!

TED’s GRAVE

Ted lies buried in the family cemetery in our home town of Port Colborne.

Thanks Ted. Thanks for the memories!!
