It’s refreshing to see that the bicycle still rules in Cambridge. In my day I fished an old bike out of the river and for a total expenditure of 7 dollars for new tubes and tires had myself equipped! I love it when modern Progressives upbraid me to “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle”. When it comes to “Re-cycling”…. I was country long before country was cool!!
The following images are my humble homage to the lovely ladies of Cambridge and their bikes. Contrast their appearance with cycling ladies in North America where the use of the bicycle is more social statement than functional transportation. Note the absence of regulation head helmets, wrap around sunglasses, stretch lycra suits covering bodies bent over carbon fibre frames in a desperate attempt to look like Lance Armstrong with the predictable result of looking like little more than sexless androids.
Here in Cambridge, the lovely ladies with their upright posture, hair blowing in the wind, and billowing skirts revealing flash of thigh as they breezily navigate the crowded streets provides a pleasant, irresistible sight of pure femininity. Vive la difference! Fond memories of yesteryear!!
