Robert Bork, prominent American jurist, passed away yesterday. His nomination to the US Supreme Court by President Reagan was shot down by a cabal of miscreant political wretches. Despite the turndown, Bork’s reputation continued to grow with each learned tome published while that of his detractors continues to deteriorate to this very day. (For a spirited defence of the nomination by the inimitable Dr. Thomas Sowell, click here.)
I had the honour of meeting the man at a think tank conference some years ago where he graciously accepted to pose for the above photo. We shared a further few minutes in the departure lounge of the San Diego airport where his legendary reputation for devastatingly laconic humour did not disappoint.
His omission reduced the stature of the US Supreme Court as does his death America’s. Robert Bork, RIP. Thanks for the memories!
