MAYAN OBSERVATORY, CHICHEN ITZA, MEXICO
December 21 has come and gone and we’re still here!! LOL!! So much for long term prognostication. The Mayan’s thought themselves capable of predicting the end of the world hundreds of years in advance of the event and yet couldn’t see the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors off their coastline. Guess which event had a greater impact on their society!! There are lessons to be learned in such misplaced hubris!!!
Above is a sketch I made of a Mayan observatory back in the 70’s during a visit to the Yucatan peninsula. I think you can see why I decided to concentrate on photography.
