I was out working the north shore of Lake Erie last week on a bright sunny morning and came across a Bald Eagle standing guard at the Oakwood Cemetery in Port Colborne where half of my gene pool is buried.
BALD EAGLE
While taking the obligatory shot, I noticed flocks of Bonaparte’s Gulls thronging the still ice-bound shore.
BONAPARTE’S GULLS
The gulls were skittish and would not allow a decent approach.
LITTLE GULL, PORT COLBORNE, ONTARIO
One solitary gull broke the pattern and decided to circle over my head. Challenge or welcome I still don’t know. I was so intent on grabbing a good flight shot that I didn’t notice the black under the wing. Only when I got home did I realize that I had captured a good image of the uncommon Little Gull. Laugh out loud!!
