COUSINS TED AND TIM KENNEDY
Interesting photo from today’s Toronto Star!! I missed by only a few days accompanying cousin Tim Kennedy to the recent Maple Leafs FanFest at the ACC in Toronto where he managed to get his photo taken alongside his uncle’s statue which is the first one to go into the Legends Row. Looking good Tim!!
At age 17, Ted Kennedy was the youngest person to have played for the Leafs. He would be the first player in NHL history to win 5 Stanley Cups. A perennial fan favourite, it would be his nickname that would become the rallying cry from the crowds at the old Maple Leaf Gardens……..“COME ON TEEDER!!”
Some rare historical video footage of Ted’s last shift as a Leaf has recently come to light.
One of the most memorable moments of my youth was being taken by Ted into the dressing room of the Leafs between periods of a game. There I was introduced to the likes of Johnny Bower, Bobby Baun, “Chief-shoot-the puck” George Armstrong, and the great man-mountain himself, bending way over to shake little Billy’s hand…….Tim Horton!!!
TED’s GRAVE
Ted lies buried in the family cemetery in our home town of Port Colborne.
Thanks Ted. Thanks for the memories!!
RMS SEGWUN
Whilst visiting relatives in Bracebridge a little while ago, they took me on a fabulous boat tour of Lake Muskoka. I was fortuate to photograph the RMS Segwun under steam out on the lake.
RMS Segwun is the oldest operating steam driven vessel in North America, built in 1887 to cruise the Muskoka Lakes in the District of Muskoka, Ontario, Canada, a resort area with many lakes and rivers. Early in the 20th century, Muskoka was poorly served by roads. Vacationers were transported to lodges, or private cottages, via a fleet of steamships, including the Segwun. She is one of only four ships in the world still carrying the status of Royal Mail Ship.

I was fortunate to have spent a week on a fishing adventure on the Lake of the Woods in Northern Ontario.

FISH STORY WITH A DIFFERENCE
One morning, I spotted a large fish flopping on the surface of the lake and in obvious difficulty. I jumped into a canoe and fished him out. To my surprise a Northern Pike had literally bit off more than he could chew and had inhaled a large Sucker which was nearly fully engorged in the Northern’s gullet.

Wimbledon has come and gone and what a wonderful championships they have been!! Congratulations to Canadians Eugenie Bouchard and Milos Raonic for their unprecedented runs deep into the tournament.
I’ve been fortunate to have attended the world’s premiere tennis tournament on several very memorable occasions. None more so than in 1991 when I had near front row center tickets for the men’s semis. Some legacy blasts from the past.
